April 28 Press Release

At the end of April, Estonian smart energy management startup MarkeDroid began a partnership with Flower, a Swedish provider of flexibility services.

Flower provides access to the flexibility market in Sweden, while MarkeDroid offers management for batteries and solar panels (PV), though all installations are carried out through partners.

Donatas Braziulis, Head of Trading at MarkeDroid, stated that many electricity intermediaries are reluctant to engage with smaller energy producers because their business models are not focused on developing or providing the necessary technology and hardware.

“Swedes are very environmentally conscious, and the backbone of their electricity production is hydropower, which still provides 40-45% of the country’s total electricity production. This is followed by nuclear energy and rapidly growing wind energy. Although the percentage of solar energy in the national energy portfolio is still small, installation volumes for solar parks have grown exponentially in recent years. Solar panels have become a very important part of distributed generation, especially at the level of private individuals and local businesses,” said Braziulis.

Oscar Welin, Head of Flower Bridge, stated that they are pleased to begin working with the Estonian startup.

“By combining MarkeDroid’s energy management software and Flower’s market optimization, energy assets are utilized to their maximum potential – both at the customer’s site and across energy markets more broadly. This creates an additional revenue stream for owners and offers the flexibility the grid needs,” added Welin.

Braziulis added that greater business growth in the Swedish market is expected through this partnership. “In Estonia, access to flexibility services is provided mainly by KratTrade, and after starting our cooperation with them, we saw that the benefit to our platform users was significant. We believe the same path lies ahead in Sweden.”

Braziulis added that the journey of entering the market with this additional service has been smooth with Flower. “For us, the partnership with Flower is a big step forward, as we combine MarkeDroid’s highly precise software with an easy-to-install device and Flower’s flexibility market opportunities. Together, we can provide Swedish asset owners with seamless access to the most profitable flexibility markets. We ensure both grid frequency stability and maximum return on investment,” he explained.

Additionally, according to Braziulis, the technology company Flower, in cooperation with energy retailer (BRP) Rebel Elhandel, offers end-users significantly higher profitability through the product Rebel Flex.

“Flower’s software automatically optimizes customers’ devices in profitable frequency and reserve markets, in addition to standard Day-ahead and Intraday markets, to which ordinary consumers would otherwise not have access,” he specified.
